American Most Wanted
Finally… This week sees the release of Public Enemies, the film based on the life of John Dillinger, a gentleman bandit who raided the American banks in the 1930s. Soon regarded as ‘Public enemy n° 1’ by FBI boss John Edgar Hoover, the police are been hot on the Dillinger’s track. Especially when Melvin Purvis, the most efficient federal agency policeman in the country, makes it a personal interest to capture Dillinger. The gangster leaves a deep impression on the FBI, as they used Dillinger’s silhouette as target during shooting exercises.
This modern Robin Hood became a real myth in the United States: this is already the 10th film made about the man since 1945. Dillinger is impersonated by Johnny Depp. At his side, Marion Cotillard stars as his mistress Billie Frechette. Christian Bale took on the role of Melvin Purvis.
Director Michael Mann intended to make an époque film in digital high definition that would pull the viewer into a hyper realistic world with a future-retro feel. Therefore, he experimented with a completely new digital HD camera. The result is simply astonishing: a Michael Mann grand-cru with an extraordinary Johnny Depp.
